I've received acupuncture in the past for this and have been doing a lot of emotional work on myself these past couple years. Recently, I got energy work and there was a lot of stuff I let go of which was around my spleen area-stuff from the past. I've had pre-mentrual issues in the past as well as menstrual, anxiety, depression, digestive problems. I've modified my diet around this and it has helped, but I know there's more to let go.
I just wanted to know anyone's insights and/or information they can share about it. I'm thinking of going back to my acupuncturist for additional support with this.
Thanks!

Re: Spleen deficiency/problems
Fri, July 31, 2009 - 9:10 AMLiz - Good work so far!
The #1 thing you can do for spleen deficiency, along with changing your diet, is eating less. Since we are blessed to live in such an affluent culture, almost everyone I know - myself included, much of the time - eats way more than necessary. . . because we evolved in an environment of scarcity, where we may have had to make use of every morsel, we are sort of programmed to overfeed if given the chance.
Everything that goes into your body needs to be transformed by the spleen, which can get overworked. So try not to eat to the point of being full. . .some say stomach should be half full, some 2/3, etc. . . I try to stop eating before my desire to eat has been destroyed. Desire = the impulse to live. . . By preserving desire, we preserve life. Then you can always have another small meal an hour or two later if you get hungry again!
Also - the spleen is most active in the morning (according to tcm) and the digestive fire is most active at midday (according to ayurveda) - so taking your biggest meals in the earlier parts of the day, with a lighter dinner can also help.
Godspeed

Re: Spleen deficiency/problems
Fri, July 31, 2009 - 10:49 AMHi Zeke,
Wow! That's such great info and do-able! I usually eat my biggest meal at breakfast and lunch (sometimes) and taper off from there. It's funny that you say to eat less, because ever since I received the energy work I automatically have been eating less! It's like my body knows what to do already!
Thanks so much!

I feel like I have to constantly tell myself the same stuff over and over again in different ways. . . and then following through is a whole 'nother project on top!
godspeed to u, Zeke
